As you may be aware, Denise was diagnosed with cancer in August 2006. In this long process, we have had many visits to many of the best doctors in the world. (Utah is a good place to get cancer.)
Recently because of breathing problems, Denise had a procedure done to diagnose and treat her left lung. It was found that the left lower lobe is too impaired to be fixed. They found more tumor than expected in there. There was also an MRI done which found three or four small tumors in her brain.
Last Monday she started two weeks of radiation on her head to treat those nasty things. The doctor is fairly confident that this will do some good for a while.
What a process this is! What a challenge! What an opportunity!
Until next time.

I was dismayed when I heard of Denise's fight. May God give your family the strength you require. Your family has a special place in my heart. I used to love coming over to your home, and our Young Men's lessons and outings were always excellent. Thank you for your example. I still have the fire-sprinkler "thingie" on my key chain. Tyler, that was 20 years ago so you must have made an impression. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have heard about my mother's diagnosis of ovarian cancer. She is doing fairly well and in the midst of chemotherapy, which she is handling like a trooper. Her head now matches my dad's however... I was very blessed to be able to return from Iraq on emergency leave to be with her right after she was diagnosed for a few weeks.
I am a physician employed by the US Army, and my wife Celeste and I have four girls. You can check us out at sessionsadventures.blogspot.com.
I am coming home in a few weeks and boy are we excited!
May God's tender mercies be upon your family in this difficult time.

What a gorgeous picture of you, Denise! As my camp director mentor, you found a special spot in my heart. Not a year goes by up at camp that we don't dance or sing Little Sally Walker or strike a Denise dance move and think of you! You taught me to plan for everything and not to be surprised when the unexpected came along. Not long after that first year at camp, in an instant, we both encountered our personal unexpected(s) . Mine has just been one of personal sadness & healing as I helped my family deal with the sudden death of my brother. But yours has been a much more challenging, on-going battle. I recall talking with you one day from Oregon, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get beyond the disbelief or overcome the overwhelming sadness over my brother's passing. You, on the other hand, woke up and found your gorgeous thick hair, was falling out that day, as you prepared for your next chemo treatment. And today, 3 years later, you courageously continue your journey with ups, downs and more unexpecteds. Hang in there Denise. Our prayers and support are with you & your beautiful family every day. And if you need anything, at any hour, of course, we are here. Otherwise, stay strong and keep on loving that family of yours. You have so much to be proud of; You Rock! 'Hugs Beanie
ReplyDeleteDenise...what a beautiful person you are, and what a beautiful family you and Tyler and all your children are. I have so much admiration for you all. Our membership in the Hillcrest 5th Ward will always be special to us, and what a kind and caring Bishop Tyler has been. As I already mentioned your children are so neat. When Elena and I first moved into the ward our youngest son Dallin was with us. Erica reached out to him and befriended him at a time when he felt so alone in the world. Later, he shared this experience with me, and expressed how much it had meant to him. When I think of a Christ-like family, I think of yours. Denise, we love you and your family, and you are both truly in our prayers. Sincerely,
ReplyDeleteDoug & Elena Lowe
You have "amazing grace" in the way you're handling this, Denise. I can't believe it's been three years. We pray for you constantly and would be happy to help you or your family any time and in any way we can.
